Our Destination Series Global Partners

A few weeks ago, we announced our new suite of products, called Destination Series. (If you missed it, find the full post here.) This new line features California extra virgin olive oil in partnership with hand-selected farms in Argentina, Portugal and Chile. We are collaborating with these select global partners because we know we are not alone in our dedication to crafting excellent extra virgin olive oil in a way that makes it accessibly priced. We’ve been cultivating these partnerships for years and are so excited to celebrate farmers who share our passion and drive for high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

Transparency being one of our key values, we’d like to share additional information about where the extra virgin olive oil in your Destination Series bottle comes from.

CALIFORNIA

Regions

The central valley of California, between Red Bluff and Kettleman City.

Olive Varietals

Arbequina, Arbosana, and Koroneiki.

Why It’s Special

While olives have grown in California for hundreds of years, we at California Olive Ranch have pioneered new ways of cultivating and harvesting olives in order to make our extra virgin olive oil both premium and affordable. While California has long been known for being an excellent growing region for wine grapes, it is only in the past few decades that farmers have taken advantage of the similarly ideal climate for olives. We’ve developed our own ranches and helped family farmers throughout Northern California develop previously unusable farm acreage into olive orchards while using sustainable production methods every step of the way.

PORTUGAL

Regions

The provinces of Santarem and Castelbranco in Central Portugal

Olive Varietals

Arbequina, Arbosana, and Cobrancosa

Why It’s Special

Portugal’s olive oil culture is quite similar to the United States. The olive farmers we’ve met there are very innovative; they’ve adopted new world technology and are using it to make their olive oil production much more efficient, just like us. Portuguese producers have made smart investments in their production and storage methods so they’re able to produce higher amounts of oil that meets the high standards we’ve set. Our partners in Portugal have excellent milling practices, making them real leaders in the extra virgin olive oil industry.

Argentina

Regions

Mendoza, San Juan, and Catamarca

Olive Varietals

Arbequina, Arbosana, and Coratina

Why It’s Special

Argentina is rooted in Old World passion but has adopted and innovated many modern olive oil production practices. Our partners in this South American country are a mix of family farmers who have been growing olives for decades, and a younger generation of farmers who are new to the industry and helping take it into the future. A significant portion of the population of Argentina has immigrated from Italy and Spain in just the last two generations. Bringing with them the strong culture around extra virgin olive oil from their home countries. As such an important part of their food culture, quality is paramount in their olive oil production.

CHILE

Regions

Talca and Colchagua

Olive Varietals Sourced

Arbequina, Arbosana, and Frantioio

Why It’s Special

Chile has a very similar climate to California and thus grows a lot of similar crops! With its similarly Mediterranean climate and fertile soil, it was a natural fit for us seek out olive farmers in Chile. The Chilean olive oil industry has a similar story to California’s too – Italian immigrants planted olive trees in the 1940s, but farmers have more recently began to implement modern agricultural methods to take their olive oil industry to the next level of quality and scale.

We hope you’ll give our Destination Series and try and taste the fruits of our & our global partners’ labors! You can find Destination Series at your local grocery stores, as well as in our online store.
